Swedish Music: A Mixture of Traditional Interests

Swedish folk music, also called folkmusik, is the most popular form of music in Sweden. This music is very alive in rhythm and has a very upbeat tempo. Music festivals in Sweden are traditional and happen every year. Folk music enthusiasts come from all over the country to take part in this tradition where dancers, singers, and songwriters come and entertain the public in a small concert. These music meetings are called spelmansstämma. Folk dance music in Sweden has greatly been influenced by Sweden’s neighboring countries, so traditional Nordic folk dance music has become popular as well.

Swedish people play many different, unique instruments. The most common and popular instrument in Sweden is the Fiddle. The Fiddle is used very often to play polka music. The Fiddle is also played in unison with the Accordion, another traditional instrument in Sweden. Recently, the clarinet has become a traditional instrument in Sweden.

Scandinavian death metal music has become very popular in the last forty years among Swedish teens. As time goes on, Sweden has reported to have seen a sudden difference in public interest when it comes to music. The sudden lack of interest toward traditional folk music is astonishing.
