Social Welfare

In Sweden, social welfare is prioritized as a large part of the Swedish welfare system. In the eyes of the world, Sweden is often named as the country with the most generous social welfare system. Social welfare is governmental provision of economic assistance to people who may need it. Social welfare mainly helps people who are sick, elderly, or disabled and that are in need of help through the government.

The Swedish social welfare system is generous in many ways, and is often said to be the most generous in the world. In Sweden, all residents get a national mandate health insurance. For example, if a person is ill or has to care for someone who is ill, this person receives 65-90% of the money that they could have made in the time lost. In almost every other country in the world, you would be left to fend for yourself and in some extreme cases you may get meager help from the government. Another generous part of the social welfare system in Sweden is that when a child is born, the parents of the child are entitled to twelve months paid leave from their job. All around, Sweden has one of the worlds most generous social welfare systems.

Because of the fact that Sweden has such a generous social welfare system, the taxes are very high. Since the social welfare system in Sweden is so generous, it costs a lot of money. Taxes are much higher in Sweden than in other countries due to their social welfare system. The government funds the social welfare system in Sweden, but the government gets their money from the public. People in Sweden find that despite the high taxes, the social welfare system is rewarding because the public gets what they pay for. Even though the high taxes take money out of the public’s pockets, it all goes back to them.
