Sweden became heavily involved with industrial design in the 1920s and 1930s. In the beginning of Sweden’s design involvement, the most common areas where their unique design style was utilized was in furniture, glassware, and ceramics. Since then, Sweden’s different and unique style of design has not only become a major part of their industry but has inspired design around the world. While the Swedish not only design things with an artistic touch such as different colored ceramic flowers running up tables, they also make products function efficiently in several different ways. An important aspect of Swedish industrial design is that products are not just made to look fancy to attract buyers. The final visual outcome is due to the fact the Swedish believe that the functions of the product should be expressed in the appearance of the item. The beauty of Swedish design is the outcome of making products perform a certain way and the product should express what the item does in a visually appealing fashion.
